How to find a Ley-line by Wendy Stokes (c)
Obtain an Ordinance Survey map, the older the better then draw a circle around the ancient castles, cathedrals, abbeys and churches, mounds, beacon points, wells and springs, river crossings, obelisks, markets, crossroads and straight paths. Some place names indicate the area was once an ancient site,
e.g., those ending in the letters by, stone, bury, thorne, etc.
Leys are named after the dragon killing saints, Mary, Margaret, Michael and George and their colours are white, red, blue and green. When you have marked the ancient sites on the map, some will line up. Usually five or more ancient sites are worth researching on the ground by walking the ley-line to discover the width and strength of it. Your rod should react when the energy that is emitted from the ley is registered. Usually a strong ley will be approximately five feet across and be easily picked up. An interesting investigation can be made by going to the oldest area of your village or town and circle around it to see if you get a reaction. As you walk these track-ways, you might discover sites not marked on the O. S. map where you can make enquiries and might discover some local legends. You might find a Green Dragon pub, a White House Farm or a convent devoted to St Mary. Colours and place names give an indication of the existence of a ley and, because the landscape is rapidly changing, this exploration needs to be done as soon as possible. Always ask private landowners for permission to dowse on their land. When you discover a place where two or more lines meet, this is the place to sit and absorb the ancient power of the ley.
