There is so much hope for this year. 2011, the year that our world leaders sort themselves out. The year the global economy comes to terms with the fact that buying socks in England affects the balance of trade in India/Pakistan and probably parts of China. Not only are people starting to become more aware of our trading connections but also our spiritual connections.
I really am trying not to preach, or to spread the word that no-one wants to read. I am just living in hope that the vision of a world where people treat each other as equals, where individuals are valued for who they are and not what they own, is becoming closer with each year we descend further away from spirituality in our quest for money, glory and power.
I am living in hope that, like a person suffering from any sort of addiction, our world will hit rock bottom. So, we may still have some way to go, but the way the financial situation in Europe is shaping up it looks like we could get there sooner rather than later.
Let's see, Ireland, hmm, it is like watching the breakdown of a human spirit be offered a helping hand and yet, still in turmoil itself, how will it fare? Many other countries around the globe are experiencing the same recession/depression cycle. I have to ask myself why is this? I do not mean 'why' as in, how did this happen, where were the money men behind the downfall? (I actually do not believe there are any money - men in control/causing these rolls in financial fortunes - I believe they are just the naturally growth of imaginary bubbles of cash put in the imaginary piggy bank of bricks and mortar, in the form of a housing market that is fuelled by greed). I digress.
As a human race we largely manage to ignore our reason for being on the planet, at least, when everything is working swimmingly and we have nothing to worry about, we can switch off the reason for our existence and just enjoy the fruits of our labours (or, possibly, the hard work of someone else). In my experience, there has to be a pretty big jolt to shake us out of our comfort zone. The need to re-evaluate, you know, like when life-changing experiences happen unexpectedly.
It is for this reason I am hopeful about 2011, for in many places around the globe there have been so many disasters...quakes, floods, illness, poverty, starvation...and yet, the glimmer of hope that shines around these situations is that firstly, people wake up and stop to think about the human condition. The natural empathy that washes over us when we watch news images of people in need is awakened and stirred by these disasters.
I hope that there has been enough global tragedy for people to really start to pay attention to the inter-connectedness we all have with each other. We are all connected and we can all make a difference, one connection at a time.
May your connection shine bright in the global community, sending light and allowing the people you are connected to, to be brave enough to shine their light also.
Love, light and laughter to everyone who needs it.
