In these modern day times the custom of the lighting of candles in the home has long disappeared with the exception of the Jewish people for whom it is a sacred act every Friday evening to welcome in the Sabbath. People generally will only resort to the use of candles when their is a electricity cut often resulting in irritation and frustration./ Whatever the circumstances lighting candles should actually be enjoyed since we rarely do so. The lighting of birthday candles especially for our children, comes to mind and don't we as adults also enjoy the act of that lighting and all that it means? Whatever the circumstances, candle lighting should be considered a sacred act by which we enter into contact with the elements of nature. The candle itself which is solid represents the earth element. We light it and we have flame. then gradually the candle melts and wax begins to fill the hollow at the base of the flame representing the dispersal of our own earthy element as we proceed on our conscious journey of the spirit. So when you light a candle or candles be conscious that you are in the presence of the four principles of matter and that you can work with them by linking yourself to the four great Angels which govern them. The angels of fire, air, earth and water.
